Just of the road to the Morenos picnic spot, Adega das Levadas is a family-run working vineyard, which welcomes visitors. Orange trees as well as grapevines and sugarcane grow in the small fields. Cats and chickens scamper about the old stone farm buildings. Among wooden barrels beside a hand-operated wine-press (still in use), you can sip the local vinho – brandy-coloured and packing quite a punch, even though it is not fortified like Madeiran wine.
