Walks

Porto Santo’s nine-kilometre-long beach is great for an early-morning jog or evening stroll. But the island has plenty more to offer if you feel like a tougher hike, such as a climb up Pico do Castelo, or around Pico do Facho. There is a spectacular mountainside path running along the side of Pico Branco to Terra Chã, and intriguing volcanic structures to be found after a walk up Pico de Ana Ferreira. Once on the island look out for the publication Guide to the Paths and Routes of the Island of Porto Santo by Francisco Oliveira and Luís Ferreira, which gives detailed descriptions of routes you can take. The tourist office publishes a map of three different island walks.
