On Porto Santo Island, there is a health centre (Centro de Saúde do Porto Santo Dr. Francisco Rodrigues Jardim) on Rua Dr. José Diamantino Lima, located between the port and Vila Baleira. The Public Medical Center has emergency service facilities, but in urgent situations, most patients are transferred to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça on Madeira or mainland Portugal for more comprehensive care.
Medical insurance is strongly advised, though EU citizens who bring along their European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) are entitled to the same free health services as Madeiran citizens.
There’s a pharmacy (farmácia), recognisable by a green cross sign on Rua João Gonçalves Zarco.
