The avenue of palms passing through the Infante Gardens leads on to the seafront, and a long pier. Dating from 1935, this was once a working jetty, but nowadays is simply an attractive spot for a stroll, especially at sunset. East of the jetty is the former fish market. Westwards stretch nine kilometres of unspoiled, white-sanded beach. For the first few hundred metres from the centre of Vila Baleira, an elegant promenade runs along the shoreline. After that you’re on your own.
